BRIEF HISTORY OF SANSKRIT DEPARTMENT

In 1947 SANSKRIT Department was originated to provide U. G. Course in SANSKRIT. The first head of Department was Prof. HARIHARAN.

                                                        BRIEF HISTORY OF Prof. Dr. P. C. MURALEEMADHAVAN

     Prof. Dr. P. C. Muraleemadhavan was born on 25th May 1952 in Puvathur Chellissery Illam at Kakkassery near Guruvayur as the son of renowned Sanskrit scholar and Poet Prof. P. C. Vasudevan Elayath.

     In 1994 he became the Reader and HoD of the Department of Sanskrit Sahitya at Sree SAnkaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady.  In 2009 he was selected as the Dean of Faculty of Sanskrit Literature there.  He was the convener of the World Sanskrit Poet's meet at Melbourne University (1992) and Helsinki University (2003).  Prof. P. C. Muraleemadhavan represented Government of India in World Sanskrit Conferences held in Edinburough and Kyoto.  He was the organising member of the 15th World Sanskrit Conference held at Delhi.  He was the founder chairman of the Chinmaya Sodh Samsthan and was a member of the Higher Education Counsel.

                                                           BRIEF HISTORY OF Prof. Dr. C. M. NEELAKANTHAN

      Prof. Dr. C. M. Neelakanthan was born on 15th April, 1952.  He has passed his B. A. and M. A. in Sanskrit Sahitya with first rank and M. Phil. with A grade.

     He has a vast experience of 40 years in teaching in College/University level.  He served as Reader for 11 years and as Professor for 6 years at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady.

      Prof. Dr. C. M. Neelakanthan has published about 26 books dealing with Indology in Malayalam, Sanskrit and English.  His book entitled 'Bhavukante Nilapatukal' received A. P. P. Namboothiri award for literary criticism.  His book 'Srutisaurabham' received Sahodaran Ayyappan literary award and Kerala Sahitya Acadfemi award.  He was honoured with the titles 'Vedasree', 'Vedamitra' and 'Vacaspati' and as an active member in 19 academic/cultural bodies.

     Prof. Dr. C. M. Neelakanthan has completed 11 research projects and 13 students received Ph. D. degrees under his guidance.
