B.Com degree was first offered at Sree Kerala Varma College in 1948. Initially, it was a course of two-year duration affiliated to Madras University. At present B.Com course is a six-semester course of three-year duration, affiliated to Calicut University.
Prof. Rama VarmaThamburan, M.A, M.Com, L.L.B alias ‘ChotaThamburan’ who was leading lawyer in the Madras High Court invited to take charge on the first H.O.D of Commerce Department. Later he served the college as principal during the year 1960-64. Prof. kerala VarmaThamburan alias ‘BadaThamburan’ was a part time professor of this course. These eminent leaders were the members of the royal family of Cochin.
Intermediate course which was later renamed as pre-degree was started in 1950 with commerce and accountancy as special subjects. The college started official post graduate course in commerce in 1967, with a sanctioned strength of 15 students.
The first chapter of ACS foundation course was started in Sree Kerala Varma College in the year 2006-07. It is the only coaching centre for ACS foundation conducted in a college in Kerala state.
