NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

National Service Scheme is a community service programme sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Social Welfare, Govt. of India. National Service Scheme is a student – centred and community oriented educational programme. It is a noble experiment in academic extension. The NSS Symbol is embossed on the badge. The eight bars in the wheel represent the 24 hours of a day. The red colour indicates that the volunteer is full of young blood that is lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind. With the motto ‘Not me but You’ National Service Scheme volunteers of Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur are always socially committed. From safeguarding the environment to social service, they have become the icon of ideal citizens. This the first unit that came to existence under Calicut University with the unit code KL01/106 . Presently there are two nss units in Sree Kerala Varma namely Unit 41 and unit 162.

OBJECTIVES OF NSS, SKVC UNIT

Understand the community in which they work
Understand themselves in relation to their community
Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve
them in problem-solving
Develop among them a sense of social and civic responsibility
Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual
and community problems
Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of
responsibilities
Gain skills in mobilising community participation
Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
Practise national integration and social harmony

RECENT ACTIVITIES 

• The NSS units of SKVC received memento from Thrissur Corporation for their cooperation in Thrissur  Pooram Green Protocol activities. 
• The NSS units of Sree Keralavarma College, Department of Zoology and National Health Mission, Thrissur jointly organised an online interactive session based on the topic "Uniting for a future free from HIV/AIDS" as a part of World AIDS .Please Click here

• As part of the 'Abhayam' project, the NSS units of Sree KeralaVarma College built a house for a family in Thrikummarakudam Colony, Kanattukara. The Thrissur district Collector, Shri V R Krishna Teja inaugurated the function.please click here:
